The gift box in detail
The box built for the holiday table, from the smoked-salmon starter to the pudding. Fleur de sel de Guérande sits open on the table for the smoked salmon, the oysters, the roast. Voatsiperifery, ground fresh, signs the gravy on a goose or a venison loin. Tonka, microplaned raw over a Christmas pudding or a warm trifle, brings that almond-hay-vanilla note that surprises everyone at the table. Two pods of Madagascar Bourbon vanilla are plenty for the brandy butter and the trifle cream. Iranian Sargol saffron — premium, all-red threads, no yellow style — colors and scents the sauce for a scallop starter. Star anise finishes the night in the mulled wine. Six condiments, six precise jobs, one table held from end to end. A menu card ships with it: a turnkey running order for twelve, from the first toast to the after-dinner coffee. The catch: don't toast the saffron dry like a spice — it scorches and turns bitter in seconds. Bloom the threads in a little warm liquid first, and you get the color and the perfume both.
“The whole holiday dinner in six condiments — one flavor thread from the starter to the pudding.”
