The gift box in detail
For the cook whose kitchen orbits the Mediterranean — Provence, Catalonia, Italy, Greece, the Levant, North Africa. Two olive oils of opposite profiles let you play every register: round Provence for the ratatouille, peppery Crete for the raw salads. Fleur de sel de Guérande holds the table. Sumac, ruby and tart, opens the Levantine recipes: fattoush, hummus, lamb with yogurt. Sherry vinegar signs the Andalusian vinaigrettes and the fish deglaze. Iranian Sargol saffron — premium grade, all red threads, no yellow style — colors and scents a paella, a bouillabaisse, a risotto. Six jars, six origins, but one tight logic: these are the six condiments most reached for by contemporary Mediterranean cooks, from Aix-en-Provence to Beirut. A menu card lays out a seven-plate run drawn from across the basin, with exact doses. The catch: don't crumble saffron straight into a dry pan — bloom the threads in a little warm stock or water first, or the color and perfume stay locked inside and you've wasted the most expensive spice in the box.
